Stay With Me

Stay With Me is a collection of love stories with a difference. Set mostly in the South West, these stories burrow into the dark underbelly of rural England. They expose some of the rot beneath the veneer, making us aware of the contrast between the backdrop of beautiful landscapes and seascapes and the deprivation that exists in some of England’s seaside towns.

This collection explores themes of place, ’race’, identity, motherhood and addiction, as well as the physical and psychological violence in relationships where abuse is often mistaken for love. It asks the question, how are we bound so tightly to those we love, even when we know they are no good for us?

These are the stories of marginalised, little-heard voices. Stories of love, hope, resilience and survival, which encourage us to believe that it is possible for those who are lost to find a way back to themselves.

***

“In this collection, Louisa Adjoa Parker presents us with powerful, utterly convincing narrative portrayals of what it means to be black or biracial, growing up in small town rural England.
Stay With Me is all the more important because this collection offers such rare insights into the inner world of characters who exist outside of of much-explored urban/inner-city settings.
A welcome contribution by an enormously talented writer.”
